Fly Paper Cover Development & Variations

Original Concept #1, #2, #3 (Tray Card)
Before we had decided on a title Hugh took an immediate liking to "Fly Paper" (from a long list of possibilities) and conjured up this image. We were not comfortable with the "insect" approach for the cover... but it ultimately made a nice tray card.

Version #1:
A totally new - and very interesting - direction. "Simple yet disquieting" was how Hugh described it. We immediately approved the concept and began a few rounds of self-indulgent experimentation; just to make sure the image and text were perfect.

Version #2:
One of the three "finalists..." second runner up actually. The image took on a new level of claustrophobic intensity - with the airplane's intent seeming a bit more sinister. Chris voted for this one; but it didn't generate enough support to develop a consensus. Others felt the image had lost its sense of motion and imagination.

Version #3:
This was the first runner up - and the choice of Mike Portnoy (whose opinion we had sought). However, we were leery of repeating the mistake of the "too-blue" sky on "Presents of Mind" so we chickened out; although we all liked this version (which gave us the title fonts).

Final Version
Variations: A variety of minor color changes, mist, and some last minute font experiments eventually lead us to the final version.
